-The

Bobolink-

The Bobolink, also known as the ‘rice bird’, is one of the world’s most impressive song bird migrants. Annually, they migrate from South America 12,500 miles across the eastern United States to breed in Canada. It is on this impressive journey that they were first encountered by Carolina rice planters. The birds regularly preyed upon the rice in its adolescent phase. Around the turn of the century when Carolina Gold was no longer grown in the Lowcountry, these beautiful birds all but disappeared. It wasn't until rice was brought back into major cultivation in the 1990’s that the Bobolink returned in force to South Carolina. The Bobolink is a reminder of the history and rebirth of Carolina Gold, and we celebrate it by featuring this bird on our bottle.
